Frequently Asked Questions

General

How much do courses cost?

Each Swimtastic course term consists of a number of small group sessions. The numbers per group and the number of sessions can vary from course to course but class groups are generally less than 10 with a course term being 7 to 9 sessions.

The cost of a full term depends on location and ranges from €130 to €150. Please see individual course and locations for specific costs

What is your policy if a lesson is missed?

Credits or refunds are not available for missed classes. We find that catch-up lessons are the best solution. That way, you and your child don’t miss out. Consistency is important for children learning to swim. Our no-refunds/credits policy encourages parents to bring their children to lessons each week.

Please contact Swimtastic if you need to arrange a catch-up class.

Do courses include submersion?

At Swimtastic, one of our main goals is to nurture water confidence. This is achieved through listening to individual needs while ensuring that the experience is fun and positive.

Submersion (going underwater) is an important part of learning how to swim. But we NEVER force submersions. It is crucial for to us to improve confidence with learning signals and taking small steps. We will only ever ask for submerssions when learners are ready.

We never submerge a baby who is unhappy. Instead, we offer an alternative until they are relaxed enough to take that next big step.

Submersion is introduced during our early baby courses. Babies love moving through the water in this gravity free environment. They find this hugely freeing. We make sure that both babies and parents/carers are completely at ease in the swimming pool environment before introducing submersion. The exercises are very gentle. Our instructors advise and guide parents in the submersion techniques and exercises.

Can learners have poolside visitors?

For Parent and Baby courses we ask that non-participating parents stay in the public observation area for the duration of the programme. Space around the pool edge is limited and other users need to be able to move freely and safely around the pool during lessons.

Children also engage better with the course if they aren’t distracted by parents in the pool area. If your child is anxious, we ask you to be patient and let us work our magic. It can take time to develop a trusting relationship between child and instructor, but we’ve yet to meet a kid we couldn’t win over.

For Adult Learners, and Aqua Yoga courses we ask there are no poolside visitors.

Poolside Photography - This is important!

Photography of children in public is a very delicate matter. Please follow each pool’s rules and policy. Due to Child Protection Policy you are NOT allowed to take pictures before, after or during classes.

Please respect the privacy of others. At the end of each term, and where possible as determined by individual pool policies, we endeavour to facilitate parents by taking group and individual photos. This depends on parental consent and permission from the pool management team. Time restrictions and schedules may also impact the opportunity to arrange photographs.

As a rule, without explicit consent and arranged times, photography during Swimtastic pool sessions is not allowed.

Parent, Baby & Toddler Swimming

What do I need to wear and bring?

All you need to bring is swimwear for you and your child, towels and toiletries. Use standard baby swimwear either bought locally or online, and swim nappies which are available in most supermarkets also. Adults need also to wear swim hats.

Can more than 1 parent or adult attend?

Technically, each course is for one parent and one child. Sometimes in smaller classes we can accommodate a second parent. Please check with us or with your teacher to see if this is possible in your class.

What happens if we miss a class

Lap & Lane Advanced Training

I don’t think I’m fast enough to become an Advanced or Master Swimmer!

Swim coaches hear this all the time. But how fast you are right now is not important. At every swimming grade are swimmers who are where you are now, or who were where you are and have improved. Don’t let ideas that you are not fast enough stop you from getting the best out of yourself. You don’t need to be super-fast, be in great shape, or currently be a competitive swimmer. Our coaches will adapt and cater to your current level and move you forward at a comfortable and progressive pace.

I’m an experienced Triathlete or Iron Man – why should I join?

Even world-class triathletes join Advanced and Master swim sessions because the best way to improve the swim portion of your race is to train with other swimmers and with the observation of an experienced coach. None of us are perfect, and the only way to learn is with coaches and other swimmers. Our master coaches will help you to improve many elements of your technique and improve interval training.

What can I expect during the Lap and Lane coaching session?

To be welcomed into an environment of Coaching, guidance, encouragement and Support. Why? To improve skill, speed, technique, endurance, fitness, and quality coaching. Taking your swimming to the next level.

Are most of the swimmers coming from competitive backgrounds?

Not at all! Most of our swimmers do it to improve fitness, improve stroke and technique and to benefit from the motivation and instruction your coach provides. People join for various reasons and in general to improve their swimming ability and technique.

What happens if I’m going to miss a date?

On a future week, simply double up on your session time – i.e. instead of doing a 1-hour session, do a 2- hour session. We want you to get the full value of your booking but please note, credits or refunds are not possible for missed sessions. This is because all the costs associated with running a course need to be met regardless of whether people make all their booked classes or not.

Safety - Always choose a safe environment with others around you
Prepare Your Body - Warm your muscles up with some gentle stretching before you begin
Hydration - Hydrate yourself, have fluids already on-board and keep some with you
