About Swimtastic

For us ‘Swim for Life’ is to know, respect and love water at all ages

What got us started ...

We are here to provide you and your loved ones with the confidence, skills and support you need to get the most out of aquatics and swimming and enjoy from the water as much as we do.

As an island nation we are blessed with beautiful rivers, lakes and seas. We are also spoiled with access to modern heated swimming pools and health clubs, both at home and when we holiday. Water surrounds us and at Swimtastic we believe that everybody should be able to enjoy these natural resources and facilities, either as an individual or with the family for fun, leisure, exercise and even competition.

Swimming is a healthy, active and enjoyable activity. It is one of the only hobbies we can participate in from birth – right up until we are old and grey. It is a lifelong gift and skill that we believe we all should and can have.

So what got started us started is our passion for water enjoyment for all ages and abilities and an eagerness to share it. What makes us different is the consistent professional, natural and caring approach of our teachers, our coaches and our support staff. Swimtastic is not a commercial franchise. It is a family owned and managed business with our swimmer’s enjoyment at the heart of all we do.

Doing what we Love

We love to bring out and nuture your inner swimmer at all ages. To do things we have developed a range of fun and enjoyable swimming programmes around ages and abilities

Parent, Baby and Toddler Swimming

Our teachers will teach, support and empower you to give your child the lifelong gift of water confidence.

We believe the process of learning to swim can be a beautiful experience for parent and child alike. Our courses are about working with parents to give their child the lifelong gift of water confidence. And, in doing so spending fun and quality one-to one bonding time together far away from the distractions and the busy-ness of life.

We realise that this is big step for parents who themselves may not be water confident, so our teachers are there to support our parents and guardians as much as the children. It’s a two pronged approached. We teach the parent how to work with the child. And we work together over time in a fun and social group to make the child comfortable, confident and water capable.

Junior and Child Swimming

We teach young children of school-going age (Bigger Kids) the swimming skills and abilities they need to safely enjoy aquatic activities

Having joined school, swimming becomes a common activity. We want our children to be able to confidently and safely partake is this great sport, activity and hobby.

Our junior courses are designed to nurture the swimming skills and water confidence of children between the ages of 5-14.

Adult Beginners

We teach and support adult beginners as they build water confidence and swimming skills in an encouraging and supportive environment

Many adults didn’t get the opportunity to develop swimming skills in their younger years and feel like they are missing out on the fun of aquatic activities. Regardless of age, many feel it’s a gap they want to fill. We’re here to help them on their way to enjoying the world of water.

Some swimmers are already capable but know that there’s room to improve on their skills and technique. We have courses to help swimmers of all levels and capabilities.

Swimming Improvement & Advanced Courses

We enable swimmers that have basic or intermediate skills but want to learn more and improve their swimming ability.

We have an array of courses at various levels that aim to support swimmers to improve their skills and technique. The course levels range from adult improvers, to advanced lap and lane swimming to master’s level swimming courses.

Pregnancy Aqua Yoga

Expectant Mum’s need support and relaxation during pregnancy. This programme exists to provide Mums to Be with a relaxing, soothing, refreshing, social and supportive activity as they journey through pregnancy.

Many of our parent and baby swimming parents came through our popular Pregnancy programme. This specialised programme acts as a gentle exercise and social outlet for Mum’s to be with like-minded ladies in a supportive environment.

Our People, Our Story

Swimtastic is an independent and family owned Irish business. It is managed by wife and husband couple Zuzana and Mark Day – along with a loyal team of teachers and administrative staff. The business began in 2014 in Athy, and then grew out of Zuzana’s love for swimming, her enjoyment of teaching and supporting people and her belief that everybody should be able to experience the fun and joy of swimming with confidence.

We now offer courses across Kildare, Carlow, Laois, Offaly and Kilkenny. We began with a small part time team of 2 but as of 2020, we have grown to a team of 12. This was through the support of our loyal customers, our brilliant team and the support of our partner pools.

Zuzana Hruz Day

Prior to founding Swimtastic, Zuzana was a competitive swimmer and coach. She was introduced to the pool by her sports loving father as a baby. Taking to the water like the proverbial duck, she progressed to the highest levels – culminating in swimming competitively for Slovakia at the European Championships and Triathlon events.

In 2009, Zuzana came to Ireland to visit her sister and to get some quiet time to complete her dissertation. Despite the rain, she fell in love with the place and the people. Now, we’re all glad to say that 10 years on – Zuzana calls Ireland home as a proud Irish-Slovak lady.

Zuzana's other passions are teaching and people. She has been working with children, adult swimmers and competitive swimmers for over fourteen years. She finds helping people to develop their water confidence and swimming skills hugely rewarding.

Mark Day

Co-founder (and husband) to Zuzana, Mark backs Zuzana’s swimming passion with business experience. Mark, along with the office team, manages the back end, organisational and I.T. side of Swimtastic He oversees course planning, scheduling, bookings, financial, marketing, I.T. and operational support for all the pool activities. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes before anyone gets swimming!

Prior to Swimtastic, Mark worked in Marketing, Operational and Management roles for companies in the medical industry. Mark is a business graduate with a particularly nerdy love of all things marketing and business technology. During his career he has also worked with Irish start-up businesses in the enterprise and business planning sector.

Irish sport is his main hobby interest and a source of much fun (and frustration). He will also be found seeking out ideal fishing spots along the river barrow.

The Swimtastic Team

Elaine Byrne

A native of Athy, Elaine joined us in 2019. She has an extensive background in children’s education and development. She is a great communicator, boasting corporate level experience in PR and customer relations. She is a big sports fan and has participated in competitive swimming, basketball and football – she’s picked up plenty of medals in her time! Elaine loves to be outdoors and is an avid hiker. She’s traversed trails in countless spectacular locations including the Slieve Bloom Mountains, Croagh Patrick and Glendalough. Elaine teaches all our swimming programmes, parent and baby, adult swim lessons, pregnancy aqua yoga and our children’s’ swimming lessons.

Carol Carton

Carol is the middle sister of the Day family. Coming with 15 years of management experience in the retail industry, Carol swapped life in multi-nationals to support us with the operational and administrative side of Swimtastic. Carol manages bookings, customer service, office administration and is the point of contact for most of our customers. Married to Tom and living in Athy, Carol is the mam of our rookie lifeguard and swim teacher Jack. She’s also our in-house baker. Her weekly baked treats are much appreciated.

Emer Challoner

Swimming Instructor

Sharon Day

Sharon is the eldest sister of the Day clan and works with us on a part-time basis. She helps to meet and greet new customers, guiding them through their first visits to our Swimtastic programmes -Sharon will most likely be the person you meet poolside on your first day. Sharon is also a child-care professional with lots of administrative experience. She has worked with Montessori and Pre-school children in County Kildare. So, when the busy times come, Sharon is on hand to give us a dig out in the office. She’s mum to Eoin, an avid little swimmer and our in-house Swimtastic Leprechaun expert!

Jack Day

Jack is our rookie lifeguard and teacher. Currently studying hard to become an Advanced Paramedic, Jack is taking on aquatics training in his spare time. This is so that he can both enjoy himself at work and earn some much-needed funds to get through college. Jack is our go-to person for diagnosis with any minor ailments or complaints. He is the Swimtastic and Day family GP in residence. At times, he gives us all a great laugh with his preliminary pre-GP visit diagnoses. When fully qualified, Jack will be teaching our Junior children’s classes in Portlaoise. We can’t wait to have Jack on-board.

Zuzana Day Hruz

Prior to founding Swimtastic, Zuzana was a competitive swimmer and coach. She was introduced to the pool by her sports loving father as a baby. Taking to the water like the proverbial duck, she progressed to the highest levels – culminating in swimming competitively for Slovakia at the European Championships and Triathlon events. Amanda is the youngest sister of the Day family, was the first new teacher to join Swimtastic when our swimming groups started to grow in number. She is a qualified stage 2 Parent and Child swimming instructor and a Water Safety Ireland lifeguard. Amanda also teachers Pregnancy Aqua Yoga. Amanda is the proud mum of two toddlers and two extra-large husky babies. She lives right on the border of three counties, Laois, Carlow and Kildare – so her address can be very confusing! Amanda is also trained as a beauty therapist, so she is charged with keeping the furry male eyebrows under control.

Niamh Downey

Niamh Downey is a Swimtastic teacher.

Jane Dunne

Jane Dunne is a swimming teacher.

Donnagh Whelan

Donnagh is a fellow Athy lady. She teaches a wide array of courses including Adults, Pregnancy and Parent & Baby programmes. Donna currently teachers across Carlow, Laois, Kildare, Kilkenny and Offaly. In her spare time, which she has little of, Donnagh works alongside her husband doing some very notable (and mostly unseen) local charity work in Athy for the homeless, which we all admire them greatly for. Donnagh is mum to four lovely children who also love to swim. It runs in the family. So, combined with Swimtastic, homelife and her volunteer work - she is a very busy lady for sure.
